Women’s History Month 2022
Today marks the first day of Women’s History Month 2022. Everyday of this month (and every other day outside of March) we celebrate the contributions of women throughout history. In preparation for this month’s blog post, I went back and forth between which ideas to write about. My mind went from giving a short list of little known Women’s History facts, to honoring the village of women that made me who I am today, and giving you guys the details of my interview with Gloria Steinem. Though all would be great reads, I decided to pass the torch to you; I want to switch things up a bit.
You may already be familiar with my life’s journey. But, if you’re new here, know that it’s been complicated to say the least; in hindsight I regret nothing. Losing the opportunity to attend college after high school, deploying to Afghanistan and seeing tragedy with my 19 year old eyes, experiencing domestic violence that led to a divorce, and overcoming the social restrictions I felt to marry the love of my life, all led me to be the woman I am today.
Every woman of the past, present, and future have and will have different sources of fulfillment, purpose, and liberation. There is no one story that mirrors another, and that’s what makes us so unique. But one thing is for sure, that the encouragement from others helps us gain the strength and drive to find out who we are as well as what it is in life that makes us feel whole. I can guarantee that your story will help another woman. Your story will impact and encourage someone else to take a step back, regroup, and gain the strength to get out of their own head and try or try again.
So, this month, I am challenging you to leave your impact. Leave a comment for a woman today who could use encouragement to believe that they can keep on keepin’ on. How many times have you read something and said, “I needed this today!”? Personally, it’s been quite a few times! It doesn’t have to be long. Whatever is on your heart to share, is perfect. Be that source of support.
