The Art of Modern Vintage
Modern Vintage outfits are perhaps some of my favorites to create! I have found that the easiest way to exude presence with modern vintage is to use the vintage statement pieces. This could be a belt, a hat, a blouse, or a jacket. My preference though, will most likely always be high waist jeans and my go-to denim jacket (I literally wear my denim jacket everywhere); seriously, how much more vintage could you get with those paired together? They are easy to dress up and dress down; but whichever chosen, up or down, this effortless look makes me feel casually powerful!
After I choose my vintage statement pieces, I find a modern or current trend that fits the vision I am trying to achieve. Nine times out of ten, graphic t-shirts usually save the day. They are the perfect way to, quite literally, make a statement. It gets a little tricky when it’s time to decide which shoes to wear, and it’s not because I don’t have a shoe that matches. If I’m honest, I had at least 2-3 other boots that would have also looked good with this outfit; I chose to go with my black gold studded moto boots from Just Fab. For this outfit, I coupled black distressed jeans from Charlotte Russe and a denim jacket I thrifted from Goodwill many years ago.
What I love most about these types of outfits, is that I can go almost anywhere and be both “dressed to impress” and be comfortable. If you take nothing from the post, realize that you DO NOT have to be “old” to wear vintage clothing and statement items. Find something? Make it work for you! What did Iman say? “In a world full of trends, I want to be a classic.”
